The Virginia
   Music Teachers
      Association

The Virginia Music Teachers Association (VMTA) is an organization of teachers throughout the state who are united in promoting music and musicianship through mutual cooperation. The main objectives of VMTA are the advancement of musical knowledge and education through discussion, examination of new trends in teaching and publication, and promotion of the general welfare of music teachers in Virginia as well as our members living in neighboring states.

VMTA, an affiliate of Music Teachers National Association, was organized in 1964. MTNA, organized in 1874, is the oldest professional music teachers organization in the United States. It represents music teachers in independent studios, conservatories, private schools and institutions of higher learning. The primary goal of MTNA is to raise the level of musical performance, understanding and teaching in America. Students of VMTA members have many opportunities for performing, competing, and improving their musical skills.

Membership in VMTA is open to all music teachers. Such membership provides the privileges of participation in the activities of the Association. Membership in VMTA and MTNA is obtained through payment of annual dues. Application forms may be obtained by writing to the State Membership Chairman.
