The Virginia Music Teachers Association (VMTA) is a non-profit organization of over 750 independent music teachers, those in academic institutions, students, and concert artists throughout the Commonwealth whose shared vision is furthering the art of music and promoting the growth and professional development of its members. We do this by providing programs that encourage and support teaching, performance, composition, research, and our students.

Organized in 1964, VMTA is an affiliate of the Music Teachers National Association. MTNA was founded in 1874 by Theodore Presser and is the oldest professional music teachers' organization in the United States. MTNA currently serves 20,000-plus music teachers in the pursuit of excellence in music teaching. As a member of VMTA, you will be entitled to all MTNA membership services.

Membership in VMTA/MTNA is open to all music teachers and provides the privileges of participation in the activities of the Association.
