The Richmond Music Teachers Association

The Richmond Music Teachers Association was established in 1973 as a local chapter of the Virginia Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association. RMTA is a nonprofit organization representing music teachers in Richmond and in surrounding communities.

The goal of RMTA is the advancement of musical knowledge through discussions, research, and performance opportunities for our students. We provide opportunities for music teachers to meet and exchange ideas and offer continuing education for members through an excellent series of workshops, which include topics in music literature, interpretation, psychology, technique and pedagogy.
