Welcome! The Catalog page contains score PDFs, audio samples, and some free music. There's a complete free online version of my award-winning 2002 book, Breaking the Sound Barrier on the Read My Book page. I've also added a Blog. Once you've taken the site for a spin, please post your comments and suggestions by selecting "What Do You Think?" from the blog's "Pick a Topic" list. While you're there, you might also want to play the YouTube video clips of the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble performing my music (Yes, that's me on clarinet!). For news folks, there's also a new Media Kit. |
Style:I avoid fads and gimmicks in my writing, concentrating instead on the time-honored principles of craft. My style is influenced by the music of Hindemith, Stravinsky, Ravel, and Copland. I rely on traditional forms, imitative counterpoint, and clear literal repetitions. For me, the heart of composition is in development. The challenge is to let the music unfold logically and seamlessly, as though it is driven by the laws of nature. During exposition, I strive to present basic thematic material clearly so that the audience can assimilate it and vicariously participate in the act of composing. |
